Brunswick County Association of REALTORS® releases real estate statistics for December, 2016.

“Brunswick County’s real estate market is starting off 2017 in strong swing. Brunswick County’s real estate numbers revealed slow, steady growth throughout 2016. These numbers are the hallmarks of a healthy real estate market and we look forward to continued growth in the new year.” -BCAR CEO Cynthia Walsh

Numbers in all categories remained flat in the first quarter of 2016. Market began warming up in the second quarter with modest gains and from warm to hot in third and fourth quarters. Total sales volume for the fourth quarter of 2016 increased 5% over the same period the prior year.

While the number of listings in 2016 decreased 5% from 2015, number of units sold increased by 2%. Additionally, the average sales price remained static, and the average number of days on market dropped to a 5-year low of 116 days. The absorption rate, or number of months’ supply of active homes for sale, was down to an over five year low of 7 months. This means if sales continue at current pace and no new listings were added, it would take 7 months to sell the entire inventory. Statistically speaking, 6 months’ supply is considered healthy according to Walsh.
